Al Jazeera reports on the early voting in the Buckeye State.
“…massive voter fraud….”, oh my. Fox sure likes hyperbole.
oh and that Tim Hortons coffee and donuts sure looks good.
Thanks for the Al Jazeera video.
Was that Ken BLACKWELL from 0:27 to 0:34? Wow, that is fucking rich.
And now the McCain campaign is letting its supporters be perceived as trying to interfere with registration of African American voters? Not so smart, IMO. But neither is the McCain campaign these days.
McCain looks so weak at this point, just as Bush does, that I wonder why the media hasn’t started shrieking for McCain to get out of the race, and Bush to get out of the White House, so Obama can just go ahead and be crowned and begin his reign–or his “rule,” as Jim Lehrer would have it.
Mmmm, donuts. Palomino, yes, since the media did it against Hillary, why aren’t they doing the same for McCain. (in the voice of that brittany loving kid) “Oh why don’t you leave Barack alooooone, he’s won already, let him be crowed already. Pleeeeease.” Or, and this was one of my favorites during the primaries, let’s see if they eventually say, oh, don’t go negative, because it will hurt whoever wins. Just you wait.
OK, on the topic. Whatever. I like same day registration/voting. It should be easier not harder. Of course you want it to be legal and all. One thing that could happen if the race tightens back up, what if Ohio is like FL in 2000 with all of these new voters being checked like hanging chads. Oh that could be fun… not.
I don’t often agree with George Will but I agree with his dislike of early voting. I think everyone going to vote on the same day highlights the importance of democracy. The collective act of voting is one small way to highlight our unity as citizens. Early voting is just more pandering to our absorbtion with self-make it convenient for ME or I just can’t be bothered.
I don’t like voting-by-mail either for the same reason.
My only problem with voting by mail, and maybe with early voting too, is how mailed and early ballots can conveniently get “lost.” But I agree with Dandy that it should be easier, not harder, and I can tell you that my 84-year-old mother, who has mobility problems, really appreciates being able to mail it in. You can’t expect her to get herself to a polling place, and it would really get complicated if anyone who had to mail a ballot because of disability needed a special permit, as for parking.
I don’t particularly care how or when people vote. As far as they are given a fair chance to have their votes count, I am cool with it.
I will vote on election day (love getting and displaying my “I voted” sticker) but wife will probably have to vote early because, due to a work related trip, she will be out of town on that date.
