Do The Right Thing

A new video by Geeklove that makes a last-minute pitch to Democratic superdelegates urging them to switch their support from Senator Obama to Senator Clinton. My sense is this for naught though the video is well-made and covers the relevant points, though I am not sure about the ultra-conversative Laura Ingraham being the one to deliver the closing argument. Though Laura Ingraham is right for once, most of us on the left basically think she is a joke. She’s not called the High Priestess of Hate for nothing. Whatever she has to say will fall on deaf ears.

The trend for Obama this past month has been a steady slide downwards but he still leads or is tied in most national tracking polls. It is true that in the Real Clear Politics Electoral College scenario, Senator McCain for the first time took the lead. But at the same time the race remains within the margin of error in 17 states. Unless Obama drops below 35% in the polls, I wouldn’t expect the Democratic party to throw in the towel. Obama’s is bleeding the death of a thousand paper cuts not hemorrhaging. While many of us see the writing on the wall, most of the Democratic Party sees it otherwise. Certainly, the election, despite the trend, remains competitive. And the risks of making a switch for the Democratic Party outweigh the rewards.

As I wrote earlier tonight, it’s about the money, not the votes. Many Democrats, largely former Clinton supporters, are very “concerned” and even some among the forever loyalist blogosphere have asked Obama to step it up but more are just too blinded by the light and moreover delighted with the cash.

Come next Thursday night, Senator Barack Obama will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. Sad but true.
