Is there any adjective better to describe Obama than duplicitous? He must think I am stupid. He must think we are all just plain dumb. Does he really think he stands apart from anyone else because he doesn’t take money from oil companies. He is right; he doesn’t take money from oil companies. Neither does Hillary Clinton. Nor did oilmen George W. Bush or Dick Cheney or even George Herbert Walker Bush. You would have to go back to Theodore Roosevelt to get someone who did because since 1907 and the Tillman Act it has been illegal for any politician to receive contributions directly from corporations. So instead, politicians resort to three round about ways to secure funding: PACs, lobbyists, and bundlers.

This quiz from the Chicago Tribune ain’t easy, there is an Obama footwear question for one but questions cover his family, his adolesence, collegiate career and his adulthood from vices to legislative record. Out of 17 questions, I got 13 right.

Paraguayans went to the polls on Sunday April 20th to elect a new President and a new Congress. After 61 years of rule by Colorado party, early results indicate a three to six point victory for the left-centre party, Alianza Patriótica para el Cambio (APC). The candidate of the APC is a former bishop, Fernando Lugo, 61, who left the Church to run for the Presidency. His opponent was Blanca Olevar, 50, of the Colorado party and the former coup leader (ret) General Lino César Oviedo of the right-wing Unión Nacional de Ciudadanos Eticos (Unace).

You do not speak for me. You do not address the issues that concern me and you would have me believe in so vacuous a political programme that few of your supporters can actually speak intelligentibly on it. Even fewer can name any of your accomplishments. In this, they are not at fault for you have no legislative accomplishments of which to speak. You seem to believe that you are someone that I have been waiting for all my life but sorry I am an athetist and thus I don’t believe in would be messiahs nor I have ever actually thought any one person has the answers to all my problems much less the world’s. You certainly have a high opinion of yourself to believe that you can convince eternal enemies to sit and talk and if we could all just get along then presto all will be well. I used to just think you naive but now I think you dangerous.
It is being called the HIV virus of frogs. The virus is called Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, or Bd, and it affects the skin of frogs. As frogs both drink and breathe through their skin, frogs infected with Bd die of thirst of simply asphyxiate. Originally from Africa, the Bd virus has already decimated populations of frogs in Australia, the United States and Central America. Colombia has the world’s most biologically diverse population of frogs, some 430 species including the famous Strawberry Dart frog better known as the poison dart frog. Earlier this year, a new species of frog was identified, also highly poisonous but coloured a bright yellow.
Colombia’s largest daily newspaper El Tiempo first reported this story. Colombian scientists report that three species are at risk of extinction.
If you think this story doesn’t have a political angle, don’t worry it does. The illicit trade in exotic animals is the third largest illicit trade in the world after arms and drugs. The Db virus was likely brought into the United States from Africa for the hobbyist trade and then spread into the wild population. The hobbyist trade in aquaria, birds, repitles, insects and amphipians is decimating exotic and endangered species the world over. And then there is the Asian appetite for quixotic elixirs and unusual meals. The Chinese are eating sharks into extinction. This needs to be stopped.
